Bitcoin hits new highs after major exchange hacks
Bitcoin has set new all-time highs following major hacking incidents. After the 2014 Mt. Gox hack, BTC fell by about 50% but climbed to a record 19700 dollars in 2017, nearly tripling from the post-hack low. Following the 2016 Bitfinex hack, BTC dropped about 20%, recovered to its pre-hack price within three months, and reached a new high in 2017. Similar patterns occurred after the 2018 Coincheck hack, the 2019 Binance hack, the 2022 FTX incident, and the 2025 Bybit hack, with temporary declines followed by rallies to fresh records. After the latest Binance hack, BTC fell about 3%, while Binance confirmed user funds were safe and at least 2.4 billion dollars of the stolen funds had been frozen.
