Hassett: CPI Data Indicates Inflation Issues Still Require Attention
The Director of the National Economic Council at the White House, Hassett, stated that prices for goods such as beef and eggs have begun to decline, but the consumer price data for September shows that the overall inflation issue still requires policy attention. He pointed out that inflation seemed to be under control over the past three months, but has started to rebound, necessitating some intervention measures. Hassett believes this could be a temporary rebound or fluctuation within a downward trend. He also expressed respect for the independence of the central bank, stating that Waller will do what he believes is right. Hassett mentioned that people are very optimistic about economic performance and are increasing their spending, which is precisely the issue that the Federal Reserve needs to pay attention to.
