Mandatory Monthly Reporting for Bitcoin Exchanges in Argentina Takes Effect
- The reporting obligation comes into effect on November 1, 2026.
- Platforms will have 15 days after the end of the month to submit their data.
The digital asset ecosystem in Argentina is undergoing a gradual path of institutional formalization. Following the initial creation of the Registry of Virtual Asset Service Providers (PSAV) by the National Securities Commission (CNV), the regulatory framework for this sector continues to add operational definitions.
After the first months of experience with the original regulation, the agency has decided to take an additional step to structure how these companies must account for their daily commercial activity, establishing standardized guidelines for those who custody, exchange, or transfer third-party assets.
Through General Resolution 1172/2026, published in the Official Gazette, the financial authority has issued a regulatory update aimed at simplifying and unifying criteria.
The central objective of this modification is for registered platforms to regularly disclose the volume of their business and the safeguarding of user funds. This measure seeks to organize information in the local market and provide greater predictability in how providers communicate with the regulatory body.
The main change introduced by this official text is the activation of a periodic reporting regime, which will take effect on November 1, 2026. From that date, all registered PSAVs must complete and submit a document designated as <
The regulation sets a strict calendar for this procedure: companies will have the first 15 consecutive days after the end of each month to send the corresponding documentation through the Financial Information Highway (AIF). Even if an entity did not record market movements or hold funds in custody during that period, the legal obligation remains, and they must declare their values as zero.
As the form is implemented, companies will need to break down their operations through hard data divided into four fundamental blocks.
First, they will have to quantify their user base, differentiating the total number of unique active clients between individuals and legal entities.
Second, they are required to disclose the total gross amount operated during the month, expressed in US dollars, considering both the spot market and other contractual modalities.
The third requirement aims to map the behavior of the local market, as providers must detail the quantities and valuations of at least the ten most traded virtual assets on their platforms.
Finally, the fourth block requires reporting the status of funds safeguarded on behalf of third parties, declaring the exact units in custody and their value in dollars at the end of the calendar month.
To support the asset structure of platforms handling these volumes, the CNV confirmed that exchanges and custodians must maintain a minimum net worth of $150,000.
However, the regulation maintains specific exceptions regarding activities that do not require legal registration. Personal operations, the use of self-custody wallets, ordinary commercial collections with virtual assets, and decentralized protocols remain outside the scope of this registry.
Moreover, individuals are only required to register as PSAVs if their monthly transaction volume exceeds 35,000 Units of Purchasing Power (UVA).
These updates are accompanied by other changes and requirements for PSAVs. As reported by CriptoNoticias, for example, they are explicitly prohibited from now on from offering or facilitating cryptocurrency mixing services.
